Imagined Experiences with AI
As an artist and creator, I have my ups and downs. Sometimes I get an idea in my head and can't stop thinking about it, like how I am with AI-generated art now; other times, I feel lost. I learned years ago that changing your perspective can often lead to a new mindset and ideas. I find this to be true no matter what I'm working on.
Changing my perspective usually means changing my physical point of view, location, or tool that I'm using, digital or camera-based. Every time I travel to Tokyo from Okinawa, it's a complete perspective change and almost visual overload, and I love it!
Lately, however, I've not traveled as much as I'd like, and AI-generated art has allowed me to envision new perspectives anywhere, anytime. While the art generated isn't always accurate, it's thought-provoking and creatively stimulating, similar to travel.
If you can envision it, you can create it and visit it in your mind in endless versions, each with its own unique storyline.
Suppose I want to travel to a quiet Japanese village. I can enter the prompt: "a quiet village in the countryside of Japan," and I'm instantly transported to an imaginary location that is precisely that. I can refresh and create endless versions of this vision and immediately change my perspective, even sitting in my living room.
Maybe, I want to walk down mainstreet in my quiet Japanese village and take in the traditional architecture. I can choose another version generated by the same prompt, and I'm instantly there.
I can visit a similar village in the winter and see the snow falling.
Maybe it's Christmas, and I want to experience a magical holiday vibe, complete with a decorated tree.
I'm a photographer, so maybe I want a photo shoot with a few local models who live in Tokyo but are from this little town. I can change my prompt to: "Profile of a beautiful Japanese model in a quiet winter Japanese countryside village" and envision photographs of each model in this location.
Are these photos perfect? No, but that's not the point. The point is that I can create a new environment with my chosen experiences. Now, imagine all of this but complete with video because that's what's next, and it's coming faster than we think.
So the next time you find yourself stuck, maybe looking for inspiration, sit back and imagine something different, perhaps a place, a time, or possibly even a different universe. Add a new prompt: "Christmas on a beautiful planet in a far off galaxy," for example, and you get ... Santa landing to bring toys to the kids, big and small, or whatever, it’s your story, make it what you like.
What's your prompt? What's your story?
